About.

Generalization over Specialization

“I realize that being a generalist and inherently curious is why I am less afraid of change in the future: I will learn to adapt to new situations and skills as I need them.”
Eric Schmidt (Executive Chairman of Google 2001-15)

Elon Musk, Charlie Munger, Eric Schmidt, all extremely successful individuals who’ve been labeled as “expert-generalist”. First coined by Orit Gadiesh, current Chairman of Bain & Company, an expert generalist is someone who studies a variety of fields, and understands deeper principles that connect those fields. Even before learning about this ideology, I have long been fascinated by the world around me and inspired to travel and learn as much as possible. From volunteer programs in China, to research internships in Saudi Arabia, I am always seeking the next adventure and challenging my beliefs along the way. I have failed hundreds of times and will probably fail thousands more, but I refuse to give up the pursuit of knowledge. It is foundational to who I am and remains my ever longing passion.

Academically, I have chosen to blend my passion for understanding human cognition with technology because of their inseparable relationship in modern society. Professionally, I have complimented my education with diverse experiences in team management, bioinformatics research, and health technology. DATA DRIVEN DESIGN.

Every year, I aim to innovate one new idea. Successfully starting a landscaping business in Ottawa, pioneering an outdoors program for first year students, running a music league competition, and now working on change management within the UBC Intramural program. I search for improvement where possible and strive to make everyday an experience.
